PURPOSE:To obtain ZrO2 powder excellent in purity and the strength of sintered compact by hydrolyzing after heating a zirconium salt aq. solution before adjusting pH to above a specific value and separating and calcining the resultant hydrated zirconia particle. CONSTITUTION:An aq. solution containing a zirconium salt (e.g. zirconium chloride) of preferably <=2mol/l expressed in terms of Zr is prepared. Next, by hydrolyzing after heating the zirconium salt aq. solution before adjusting to >=pH11, the hydrated zirconia slurry is formed. Next, the hydrated zirconia slurry is solid-liquid separated and the obtained solid phase is dried to obtain hydrated zirconia powder. Next, the zirconium oxide powder is obtained by calcining the hydrated zirconia powder. As a result, anion in the hydrated zirconia powder is easily removed, the rigid cohesion caused by the anion impurities at the time of calcining the hydrated zirconia is prevented and the obtained zirconium oxide powder has excellent compaction ability. |
