The bullet-proof cloth jacket (2) carries front and back protection (11) against explosions, and supplementary protective plates (8), which may be contained in the jacket envelope or in pockets within it, or in attached removable pouches (13,14). Pouches containing lower body protection (9), and neck protection (12) may be attached to the jacket. The protective plates may be between 15 and 23 mm thick, made of various polymers, and the pouches may be attached by sliding fasteners, hooks, or hooked pile fasteners. A knapsack may be built into the jacket, for additional armour or for carrying equipment. ADVANTAGE - The jacket provides protection against explosions and small-arms fire, and the areas to be protected may be varied according to requirement.
