The present invention provides an illuminator (illuminating collector) device including a first array of lenses (Lij1) and a second array of lenses (Lij2) located in a plane such that the beams coming from the lenses (Lij1) are separated spatially. The second array of lenses (Lij2) may be replaced by a mirror (M) located halfway between the single array of lenses and its focal plane. Application: television projectors using a liquid-crystal matrix.
