Gas lance (9) is advanced into a furnace by an assembly (1) before gas is released. The assembly consists of two tandem opposing sets of concave-rimmed guidance rollers (2,3; 4,5) through which the lance is fed into the furnace. The upper and lower concave rollers rotate in opposite directions. The assembly is capable of continual operation. USE/ADVANTAGE - The assembly guides an advancing gas lance into a smelting furnace. The assembly is suitable for remote control to open a furnace containing the smelt.
