Method for recycling mattresses which comprise a homogenous material, such as foam or foam rubber, in which method such a mattress is cut through along a plane running in the longitudinal direction of the mattress, parallel to the top or bottom surface, and also, approximately in the centre, along a perpendicular plane, in the width direction of the mattress. The resultant four parts are rotated through 180 degree, either about an axis which is vertical with respect to the mattress or about an axis which runs in the width direction of the mattress, perpendicular thereto, in such a manner that the sides at which the parts bear against one another after the incision referred to as the second incision, following the rotation, are located at the ends of the mattress. Then, the parts are glued together again in the rotated position. Preferably, a layer of moisture- regulating, resilient and mechanically suitable material is arranged between the two top parts and the two bottom parts.
