Creating a noise damping plug inside a hollow cavity of a vehicle bodywork, a foam body (12), with a slightly larger vol. than the area to be closed off, is placed in an injector (1) and subjected very briefly to high pressure which forces it into the hollow cavity (13). On reaching the intended area the foam (12) expands as the pressure drops and seals the cavity (13). Process appts. comprises a hollow injector body (1) for holding the foam plug (1). The inner chamber (2) tapers towards the front outlet (3) and air pressure is supplied at the rear. Pressure duration is pref. less than 1 sec. The initial foam plug (12) cross-sectional shape is similar to that of the hollow cavity (13). A closed cell foam is used, pref. with an impermeable skin. USE/ADVANTAGE - Forming a noise damping plug within the hollow cavity of a vehicle bodywork. Simpler, cheaper process which can be used after painting and drying bodywork.
