The device (6) is provided with a release lever (11) pivotable out of a starting position around a fixed axis (10), which has a tension tongue (12) which at least partly engages under the free end of the striker spring (8). The release lever (11) has a return component (15) which further produces automatically the starting position, and the retainer (7) and the axis are fixed on the reception housing (1) for the cartridge (2) of the breathing protection appts. The return component is a torsion spring (15) fixed on the axis. ADVANTAGE - The striker hammer operating the ignition mechanism is easily releasable, and the exchange of the cartridge is facilitated.
