A compsn. for care of the hair contains (a) an alpha-hydroxymonocarboxylic acid of formula R1-C(OH)H-COOH (I) or s salt, and (b) an aromatic alcohol of formula (II) R1 = H or 1-4C alkyl; R2 = H, Me or methoxy; X = a bond of a 1-3C alkylene or alkenylene gp.; Y = H or OH; p, q = 0-5. USE/ADVANTAGE - The compsn. is a shampoo, rinse, conditioner or treatment compsn. The compsn. confers gloss and prolonged softness, even on difficult hair, and allows of easy manipulation to the required style.
