The display unit has a fan (10) which circulates air through the side air ducts (2, 3), the duct openings (5, 6), the upper part of the trough (1) and through the heat exchanger (7). A defrosting system is provided for the automatic melting of the ice accumulating in the refrigeration machine (13). The heat exchanger (7) is arranged at the side (1a) of the trough in the upper part of that side air duct (2), through the opening (5) of which, air is utilised for the flows (A) in the side air duct. The defrosting system (8) e.g. an electrical resistance is fitted in the side duct (2), in the outlet part of the heat exchanger (7). A control unit (14) is also assigned to the display unit, for switching off the fan during defrosting. USE/ADVANTAGE - Food display system for fish, meat and dairy products. Ice build up is restricted to areas more easily defrostable. Fan can be used economically to reduce electricity consumption.
