The invention concerns an arrangement for measuring the length of a cable 1 passing in a stretch between two measuring stations, wherein the first station 2 by means of an electromagnet 4 and an edge 5 produces the indentation of a marking in the cable sheath, and the second measurement station 3 by means of an edge 6 dragged against the cable sheath detects said marking. The motions from the edge 6 are converted in the receiver 3 into electrical signals. Upon detection of said marking, the receiver produces a control signal which both increments a counting arrangement 9 for counting the number of detected markings and causes the first station 2 to apply a new marking to the cable. The number of markings detected at said second station 3, multiplied by the distance between the stations, gives the length of the cable passing by. In order to avoid false readings due to irregularities in the surface of the cable sheath, said first station 2 is provided with a number of edges 11 which, upon activation, imprint an initiation code in the cable surface, at the same time as the aforesaid marking is triggered, in front of said marking. The receiver 3, which cannot misinterpret said code, upon reception of the code opens for the time necessary to register the aforesaid marking. <IMAGE> |
