PURPOSE:To finely feedback-control the combustion of an internal combustion engine in a simple manner by using a spectrometer for the spark light generated in the ignition of a spark plus of the internal combustion engine and analyzing the composition of the gas on the basis od the spectrum of the spark light. CONSTITUTION:As for an internal combustion engine, a high voltage an internal combustion engine, a high voltage is supplied to a spark plug 3 through a high tension cord 7 f m an ignition circuit 6 immediately before end of the compression stroke. Accordingly, a spark is generated in the gap part between the outside electrode 4 of the spark plug 3 and the center electrode 5, and the mixed gas in a combustion chamber 1 is ignited. In this case, the spark light generated in ignition is introduced into a spectrometer 11 through a plurality of optical fibers 9 and 12 from a light introducing port 10. The output of the spectrometer 11 is read out in a control circuit 14 in accordance with the timing of the generation of spark. Accordingly, the combustion state is analysed on the basis of the composition of the gas obtained from the spectrum of the spark light, and the combustion of the internal combustion engine is feedback- controlled. |
