PURPOSE:To reduce defective recording by changing processing order of a recovery means for recovering defective ink discharge of a record means cartridge in accordance with result of a means for detecting attribute of the mounted record means cartridge. CONSTITUTION:A record head cartridge having an ink jet record head and an ink tank integrally comprises a connector for connecting a drive circuit and a cartridge interface, a head control section and a cartridge ID generating section. For example, as for a processing in which an automatic recovery processing is performed at every fixed time by using an interrupt signal by a timer, an ID number of the record head cartridge to be mounted from the cartridge interface is inputted and determined whether or not it is the same cartridge as a cartridge at an previous automatic recovery processing by referring to a cartridge retention register. When it is the same cartridge, the processing is executed by an automatic recovery processing I written in a ROM. When it is not the same, the processing is executed by an automatic recovery processing II, and the ID number of the cartridge is stored in the cartridge retention register. |
