PURPOSE:To provide the handwritten character input system which facilitates editing and is convenient from the viewpoint of man-machine interface. CONSTITUTION:A display content data storage means 16 is provided with a character string display data storage means for storing one part of the data of character strings stored in a character string data storage means 14 and a handwritten character display data storage means for storing further one of character string display data, the display screen of a display device 20 is provided with a character string display area for displaying character strings stored in the character string display data storage means and a handwritten character display area for displaying character strings stored in the handwritten character display data storage means and according to a program written in a program storage means 13, a central processing means sends the character string data as the result of character recognition to both of the character string data storage means and the handwritten character display data storage means and updates the data.
