PURPOSE:To obtain a nitrile in high yield at a relatively low temperature without the presence of halide(s), water, etc., in the reaction system, by vapor phase catalytic oxidation between an alkane and ammonia in the presence of a specific catalyst mixture. CONSTITUTION:The objective nitrile can be obtained by vapor phase catalytic oxidation of an alkane with ammonia in the presence of a catalyst mixture composed of (A) the 1st multiple oxide of formula MOaVbTecXxOn (X is Nb, Ta, W, Ti, At, Zr, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ru, Co, Rh, Ni, Pd, Pt, Sb, Bi, B, or Ce; when a is 1, b is 0.01-1.0; c is 0.01-1.0; x is 0.01-1.0; n is determined depending on the oxidized states of the other elements) and (B) the 2nd multiple oxide with catalytic ability having a composition other than the above formula at a weight ratio A/B of 0.001-4. |
