PURPOSE:To provide a method for purifying waste gas where nitrogen oxide is effectively removed from waste combustion gas contg. nitrogen oxide and oxygen whose amount is not less than the stoichiometric valve to unburnt components, such as carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon. CONSTITUTION:A waste gas purifying material in which at least one catalytic activity species selected from the group consisting of Cu, Co, Mn and V of 1-15 total wt.% (expressed in terms of metallic elements) is carried on porous inorganic oxide of 100wt.% is installed in mid-way of a waste gas duct. Liquid hydrocarbon of 5C or more is added to waste gas in an amount at most five times larger than the amount of nitrogen oxide in the waste gas on the upstream side of the purifying material. The waste gas to which the hydrocarbon has been added is brought into contact with the purifying material at 300-550 deg.C to remove nitrogen oxide while restraining the hydrocarbon from being cracked until it reaches the waste gas purifying material. |
