PURPOSE:To obtain a heat-resistant cushioning material usable for a device for automatic loading, having excellent durability, preventing the occurrence of unevenness or thickness variation of a material to be treated. CONSTITUTION:One side or both sides of a base 1 totally comprising aromatic polyimide fibers or composed of main fibers comprising the aromatic polyimide fibers are provided with covering layers 2 made of a web consisting of undrawn meta-aromatic polyamide fibers or obtained by needling a web constituting meta-aromatic polyamide fibers, and the base and the layers are heat-treated at <= the glass transition temperature of the aromatic polyimide fibers and >=the glass transition temperature of the meta-aromatic polyamide fibers.
