PURPOSE:To perform the switching between the working/stand-by packet switching modules without interrupting the packet call by copying the contents of the memory of a working packet switching module to the memory of a stand-by packet switching module and then taking over a calling state. CONSTITUTION:When the working/stand-by packet switching module switching is carried out, the system control program of a working packet switching module 11 copies the variable data are of a memory 114 to the variable data area of a memory 124 of a stand-by packet switching module 12 via a system bus 2 based on the instruction given from the memory copy instructing part 113a of a processor 113. Thus the packet calling state of the working variable data area and the information decided at every call can be taken over by the stand-by variable data area.
