[Also in Group XXXIV] A carriage-mounting in a machine-tool comprises guide-rails 3 ... 6 with interposed rollerbearings 7 having their axes vertical, and rollerbearings 12 with their axes horizontal to support the weight of the carriage, the rollers 12 bearing against the rails 3, 4 fixed to the carriage. Rails 15, 16, fixed to the machine-bed 1, engage over the rails 3, 4 to prevent the carriage from lifting. The tapered surfaces 8 of the two-part rail 6 bear against a correspondingly-tapered surface 9 on the bed, and the parts of the rail are moved endwise by adjusting-screws to remove play in the bearings. The rollers 12 are supported on rails 13, 14. |
