METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENHANCEMENT OF COMMUNICATION EFFICIENCY

PURPOSE: To improve communication efficiency concerning data search at a data processor having a storage device. CONSTITUTION: Host computers 202, 204, 206 and 208 apply authority for searching data positions within a certain range inside a storage system to a storage system controller 200, set the starting position of data search and specify the augument of a key field to be searched. The host computers operate the controller so as to independently search the range of data positions, to which the authority is applied, inside the storage system or a cache memory 228 of this controller. The controller sends a state report to the hosts only after the positions of plural records are confirmed at the data positions within the range to which the autority is applied for confirming the position of any desired record related with the augument in the key field or after the entire data range is searched and there is no desired record.
