PURPOSE:To relay an optical signal and to maintain a satisfactory communication state. CONSTITUTION:The optical repeater of a portable optical communication device 10 uses multiple light receivers/emitters 4, 4... consisting of light-receiving elements 21 which receive optical signals for optical transmission, convert them into electric signals and amplify them and of light-emitting elements 31 which convert again the amplified electric signals and emit light. Light emission is controlled in such a manner that the light-receiving elements 21 have a specified light-receiving angle and receive the optical signals in a specified direction and the light-emitting elements 31 emit the light with the same light-emitting angle as the light-receiving field of the light-receiving elements 21 and they emit the optical signals having the same characteristic as the light-receiving signal in a direction except for the specified direction.
