A cylindrical tank(6), under a hemispherical transparent cover(5), is connected by a suction hose(2) to the applicator head(4). The attached(7) steam hose(8) runs from a two-way valve(9) within the tank to a delivery nozzle(13) on the applicator. Alternative piping(11) allows the valve to connect this hose either directly or via the steam generator(12) to the contained liquid (e.g. water), using the mode control switch(10). Adjacent switches(14,15), repeated on the applicator(14',15'), control suction and steam, independently. Returned water either enters the main tank(6), after filtration, or a waste tank(6'). Around the suction head(4) slot, brush or flexible blade barriers admit liquid or steam from the adjoining nozzle(s)(13) only through the carpet, etc., being cleaned. ADVANTAGE - All steam delivered is effectively available for cleaning.
