<p>PURPOSE:To estimate a global motion vector by searching an area most close to a divided small area from an image in the preceding frame, and when the difference of absolute values in the small area exceeds a threshold, redividing the small area and searching a corresponding area. CONSTITUTION:A searching circuit 3 corresponding to area division divides an input picture and searches an area in which the sum of absolute value errors is minimum from the outputs of a frame memory 4. When the sum of absolute value errors is reduced less than a threshold, the horizontal/vertical coordinates of the center on an image in the area, a motion vector and block size are outputted to a global motion vector estimating circuit 5. A motion parameter outputted from the circuit 5 becomes a control input to a global motion vector compensating circuit 6. The circuit 6 generates a predicting picture whose motion is compensated in accordance with the motion parameter outputted from a frame memory 14. A local motion estimating and compensating circuit 7 divides an input signal and estimates an area most similar to each divided small area out of outputs from the circuit 6 to compensate its motion. A predictive difference signal between both the compensating circuit 6, 7 is outputted through a DCT circuit 8 and a quantizer 9.</p> |
