APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ESTIMATION OF MOVEMENT

PURPOSE: To realize a real-time processing by using a serial input system for input and simultaneously processing preceding and current blocks in parallel by a pipeline system and selecting a corresponding movement vector simultaneously with minimum value detection. CONSTITUTION: A preceding block forming means 100 takes serial picture element data strings SPDs 1 and 2 in a search window as the input to successively output block picture data strings PBD corresponding to all preceding blocks PBs in the search window in parallel. An MBA operation means 200 simultaneously processes error values BEs of PBs to a current block CB in real time. A minimum value detection means 300 outputs a final minimum error value MAE by comparison of minimum values of groups. A movement vector generation means 400 selects the movement vector value of a PB corresponding to the minimum value synchronously with the operation of the means 300 and generates a movement vector MV of the PB having the final minimum error value simultaneously with the value MAE. An output control means 500 outputs the value MAE and the vector MV with movement estimation data.
