On start up, the thermostatically controlled flap (12) is open, and the flap (15) is closed, diverting the gases through teh block of horizontal tubes (11), one group of which contains catalyst and is open at both ends to allow passage of the gases, and the other group is closed, containing Lithium Fluoride and Lithium Hydroxide salts as exothermic agents, using their latent heat of fusion to heat the gases. As the gases heat up, the flap (12) closes, and the flap (15) opens to allow gas flow through the passage (14). The catalyst honeycombs (21,22) in the secondary chamber (2) remove the impurities in the exhaust gases. USE/ADVANTAGE - Pollution on start-up is reduced, no external pre-heating is required, and the equipment has a long useful life.
