The weight (11), when pulled, travels along a track the angle of which is adjustable in relation to the vertical. The angle of the track automatically alters in relation to a pre-set programme and/or measurements taken during exercising. The weight is suspended from a vertically movable deflector roller (12) for a cable (9,10). The holder for the weight can be moved on a fixed pivot point beneath the deflector roller. The track for the weight is formed by a guide bar (18) movable on the pivot point. The weight is suspended from a chain (15) joined to the deflector roller by a crosshead (14). The chain leads over a chain wheel (17) coaxial with the pivot point. USE/ADVANTAGE - The tensile force of the exercise machine can be easily altered, without interrupting the exercise process.
