The left-hand and right-hand side rear wheels (1RL,1RR) can be driven when necessary by respective hydraulic motors (ML,MR) of turbine type to which fluid is pumped (P) from a reservoir (16) via hydraulic lines (31A,31B) and changeover valves (VVA,VVB,VVE). The motors may be operated either jointly or separately according to operating conditions such as lateral acceleration, road surface friction coefft., road speed, steering angle etc. They may be coupled together by a hydraulic clutch (12) when a predetermined condition is fulfilled. The hydraulic pressure storage mode makes use of an accumulator (41). ADVANTAGE - The quality of ride of the vehicle as a whole is improved with considerable saving of fuel from use of stored energy.
