<p>A microcode caching system for storing microcode for use by a digital system that processes program instructions to perform functions. The system comprises a read only memory (ROM) configured to store a first group of the microcode, and a random access memory (RAM) cache configured to temporarily store blocks of a second group of the microcode. The second group of the microcode is directly mapped into the RAM cache from a memory device separate from the RAM cache so that the blocks can be swapped into and out of the digital system. The microcode caching system is integrated with the digital system, whereas the separate memory device is not.</p> |
