METHOD FOR THE MUTUAL CHEMICAL AND COMPACTION TREATMENT OF INORGANIC WASTES

The invention concerns a method for the chemical treatment and compaction of bulk inorganic wastes intended for subsequent dumping. Various water-containing inorganic dumping-ground wastes containing water-soluble components capable of reacting chemically with each other are mixed together and compressed under a sufficiently high pressure that the void volume of the mixture is reduced essentially to the volume of the liquid resulting from the moisture in the waste mixture so that the voids between the particles in the mixture are entirely or almost filled with liquid and chemical reactions between the particles proceed in the voids i.e. in the liquid phase. The toxic substances present in the wastes are thus completely or at least partly converted by precipitation, neutralization and redox reactions into substances which are less damaging to the environment.
