An accelerator pedal system in a road vehicle has a coupling to a rotary position registering device, e.g. potentiometer, that provides an electrical input to the fuel controller. The coupling (11) to the pedal has a connection with a wire cable transmission element (10a), the end of which connects to a carrier (5). The carrier rotates when the pedal is displaced and this moves the spindle (3) coupled to the potentiometer. Overload prevention is provided by the end of the cable being coupled to the carrier via a coil spring (20'). The maximum displacement point can be set by an adjuster (30). ADVANTAGE - Allows adjustment of max. permissible load point while avoiding damage.
