A new device for reducing or preventing the release of germs from medical wash basins, baths etc. has the innovative feature that the outlet of the basin (1) or bath is hermetically sealed by a valve (2) which is opened either manually or by means of a sensor-controlled mechanism (4) when the sensor (3) detects that a certain water level in the basin has been reached. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. in operating theatres, medical practices, sterile rooms, etc. Overflowing of the wash basin etc. is prevented and the release of germs while the basin is not in use from any opening in the basin, leading for example to the outlet pipe is not possible.
