A compact gas discharge electrical lighting lamp is configured as a unit that fits into a normal incandescent light bulb socket, using an adaptor. The latter has a threaded stem (7) and a housing (9) in two main parts that receives the starter circuit (4) and circuit board (8) necessary for operation of the gas discharge lamp. The lamp has a socket section with a pair of contact pins (12) that engage apertures in the side walls of the adaptor housing. Internal contact elements (5,6) connect to the output points. ADVANTAGE - Compact; limited cost. Suitable for automatic assembly.
