A system for brightness and contrast control for a display monitor (17) uses a control routine (35) to interpret pointer device (31) movement in distinct directions (25) as input for adjustment of brightness (29) and contrast (27) adjustment. The control routine (35) may be initiated (33) and terminated (51) by the user whenever adjustment is deemed necessary. The system eliminates conventional slide switches and rotary rheostats for providing adjustment input. In one aspect, the invention is a part of a notebook device (11) mounted in a handrest (15) adjacent to a keyboard (19). |
