The present invention relates to a method of connecting subscribers to a telephone exchange in a manner to spread the risk of groups of subscribers being put out of order. Incoming subscriber lines are connected to a cross-connection frame which, in turn, is connected on the station side to the different line switch modules of the exchange, and the modules are divided into a number of subscriber groups. The cross-connection frame is divided into a number of frame modules where the size of each module corresponds to a line switch module. According to the invention, the incoming subscriber lines are connected in groups to the frame modules (8) so that geographically neighbouring subscribers, for instance subscribers in a residential quarter or area, are connected to the same module. The frame modules (8) are divided into a number of sub-modules (8a) corresponding to the number of subscriber groups (9a) in each line switch module, and the cross-connection frame is connected to the line switch modules (9) of the exchange, preferably by multipaired cables (10), so that the sub-modules of each cross-connection module (8) are connected to a respective line switch module (9). In this way, all sub-modules (8a) within each cross-connection module (8) is connected to different line switch modules (9), so that not all subscribers within one and the same geographical area will be put out of order should a fault occur on one line switch module. <IMAGE> |
