This invention provides a method for preventing or treating diabetes in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of at least one compound of formula (I). The invention also provides pharmaceutical preparations useful for the prevention and/or treatment of diabetes comprising an effective amount of at least one compound of the formula previously set forth and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
