The storage device has a magazine (1) with a row of boxes in which cassettes of the same type can be stored. Unsorted CD cassettes (6) can be placed in a second magazine (2) after identification. The identifying device (8) matches cassettes with boxes. A 3D drive (9) is provided for entry and removal of cassettes into and from the magazine. A peripheral storage area is provided for unidentified cassettes. The identification device is a bar code reader, e.g. laser scanner, which scans the whole surface of the cassette. ADVANTAGE - Sorts cassettes according to corresp. cassette case.
