An agent for permanent shaping of human hair comprising two separate components which are mixed together immediately before use, in which one component (A) is a compsn. comprising thioglycolic acid and/or a salt of this in combination with aminoacid hydrochlorides and at least one polyol or (m)ethyl ethers of these in aq. soln. at a pH of 4.5-6.5, esp. 5.0-6.0, and the second component (B) contains ammonium bicarbonate and has a pH of 8-9, esp. 8.1-8.6, and after the components (A) and (B) are mixed the resulting working soln. for use has a pH of 7-8, esp. 7.3-7.7. USE/ADVANTAGE - The mixed soln. is used for permanent waving of human hair in the usual way followed by neutralisation/fixing with dil. H202 soln. The compsns. are used at a pH which does not cause damage to the hair and have good permanent waving activity. The solns. are free from thioglycolic acid monoglyceride which is known to have skin irritating activity in some people.
