Power press for compressing radioactive waste, esp. radioactive filter arising from buildings. The press comprises a ram (6) around which are arranged blades (3) driven by their own driver motors (9). The ram (6) has its own driver (5,7). The drives (5,7,9) rest on a common support plate (8), and position ram (6) and blades (3) vertically. The blades (3) cut away the wooden frame (2) from the rest of the filter (1). A drum (4) with its upper edge pushed against an upper gasket ring (23,24) is positioned on a vertically adjustable ground plate (65). The radioactive waste is compressed into the drum. USE/ADVANTAGE - The power press is for dispersing of radioactive filters arising from buildings. Compressing of radioactive waste leads to reduced disposal costs. The simplified cutting away of the wooden filter frame means it can be burned separately. Previously the wooden frame had been cut away by hand (exposure-involving remote handling) or disposed of with the rest of the waste.
