The appts. for controlling scale practice of an electronic musical instrument has a function select switching device for selecting a desired one of various functions in response to a user selection. A scale practice switch for selects a scale practice mode, and a scale select switch for a desired scale. A minor switch selects a major or a minor of the selected scale. An increment switch selects a tune, having sequentially incremented notes, and a decrement switch selects a tune having sequentially decremented notes. A random switch selects a tune of which the notes are randomly variable. A note hearing test switch selects a note hearing test mode.
