During the longer intervals between dispensing operations an equalising valve reduces the gas pressure in the vessel to a lower level for when they resume and thus reduces the frothing of the drink. A controller (60) with two or more valves can be provided, changing over to the rest position during the longer intervals. In the working position, a first valve opens the connection between the gas bottle (45) and the vessel (6), and a second valve shuts off the connection between the vessel and the equalising valve (65). In the rest position, the first valve shuts the bottle off from the vessel, and the second one opens that between vessel and equalising valve, the latter reducing gas pressure in the vessel to a predetermined minimum.
