An indicating system for a washing device (10) having at least one rack (16) for holding articles during the washing of same and a door (14) for gaining access to the articles. The indicating system includes a detector (24) for sensing whether or not the one rack holds articles and logic circuits responsive to the detector (24) and to the operating state of the washer (10) for providing an indication that the articles have been cleaned when a predetermined operating state is detected and for providing an indication that any articles in washer (10) are not clean after the detector (24) senses that the articles in the rack (16) were removed from the rack (16).
