A radial ply tyre (1) with a steel belt (7), which comprises a carcass ply (6) turned up around bead cores (5) from the axially inside to the outside thereof and a belt (7) comprising two plies (7i, 7o) of parallel steel cords disposed radially outside the carcass ply (6) in a tread portion (2) of the tyre (1) wherein the amount of steel included in the radially innermost belt ply (7i) per an axial unit width and a circumferential unit length thereof is less than that in the radially outer belt ply (7o) disposed on the radially outside of the innermost belt ply (7i).
