An inverter controlled induction motor driving system for electric rolling stock drives a plurality of induction motors 350a, 351a . . . 350i, 351i by the outputs from a plurality of variable voltage variable frequency inverters 33a . . . 33i to thereby drive the electric rolling stock, and it has a frequency controller provided for each of the plurality of inverters so that a frequency instruction fINV to a corresponding one of the inverters is produced by adding a motor rotating velocity fr and a slip frequency fs. The frequency controller has a unit 80a for selecting as the motor rotating velocity fr the minimum, upon power running, or the maximum, upon braking, of a rotating velocity signal fra from at least one motor which is controlled by the self inverter 33a, and a rotating velocity signal frx which is produced on the basis of the rotating velocity of at least one motor which is controlled by at least another inverter 33b . . . 33i.
