Cylinder block and crank case (1) for an internal combustion engine with inlet and outlet passages for ventilation arranged therein, preferably a multi-cylinder in-line internal combustion engine in which equalising chambers (42) are incorporated in the inlet line (44) and a resonance chamber (29) is incorporated in the outlet line (36). Arranged ahead of the resonance chamber (29) are passages (30), each of which starts from variable-pressure chambers (24, 25 and 26, 27 respectively) in the cylinder block and crank case. The passages (30) are provided along their length with a plurality of bends (32, 33) and thus act as oil separators. The equalising chambers (42) and the resonance chamber (29) are arranged to the side of the row (5) of cylinders. They reinforce the cylinder block and crank case (1) and reduce the amount of noise emitted. <IMAGE> |
