The connector assembly includes a housing having a latch, a terminal to be inserted in the housing and fixed thereto by the latch, and a retainer insertable into the housing to a regular latching position at which the retainer locks the latch in position to maintain the fixing of the terminal to the housing with the latch. The retainer has a catch which will be contacted by the terminal if the retainer is in the regular latching position prior to insertion of the terminal into the housing. In this case, insertion of the terminal into the housing pushes the retainer from the regular latching position to free the latch and allow the terminal to be engaged and held by the latch. <IMAGE>
