PURPOSE:To selectively obtain a trimer-based reactional product in high yield in the low polymerization of an alpha-olefin, especially ethylene, by using a catalyst comprising a specific chromium compound and an alkylaluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:An alpha-olefin is lowly polymerized using a catalyst comprising an alkylaluminum compound and a chromium compound obtained by reacting a chromium salt with a pyrrole compound in a hydrocarbon solvent. When ethylene is thus polymerized, high-purity 1-hexene can be selectively obtained. |
