METHOD FOR BONDING OF OPTICAL FIBER TO OPTICAL ELEMENT ON COMMON BOARD

PURPOSE: To highly precisely connect an optical element and a connection fiber through the use of a small and inexpensive optical header. CONSTITUTION: In a method for connecting the optical fiber 8 to the optical element 2 on the common substrate 4, the vertical direction position of a core 10 is adjusted by rotating the fiber 8 around a shaft 24 by using the eccentricity of the core 10 of the connection fiber 8. The adjustment is executed by bringing the fiber 8 into contact with the horizontal reference face of the substrate 4 carrying a laser diode constituting the element 2 to which the fiber 8 is to be connected so as to hold the fiber 8. The method can be used for manufacturing the transmission header for an optical fiber communication system.
