This brake comprises a lever (1) articulated to a pin (2), a sole plate (3), and a toggle joint mechanism (8) connected to the application (handbrake) cable (9); this mechanism (8) includes a link rod articulated to the lever (1), the end of the cable (9) being connected to the end of the link rod (10) by means of a balance arm (11) which can move in terms of translation in a direction parallel to the cable (9). The mechanism (8) considerably decreases the effort involved in applying and releasing the brake. Upon applying the brake, the lever (1) is brought into abutment on the sole plate (3) so that the direction of the load (P) in the link rod (10), brought about by tensioning the cable (9) passes over the pin (2), which ensures that the lever is kept in the "brakes applied" (on) position. A push rod (16) subjected to a return force (F) and sliding inside the lever (1) fulfils a safety function of automatically locking the brake in the position which keeps the brakes applied. <IMAGE> |
