<p>PURPOSE: To reduce clocking skew to an integrated circuit(IC) chip by arranging the IC chip on the upper face of a substrate, making a laser striking the lower face of the substrate pass the substrate, and transmitting a pulse to an optical receiver on the chip. CONSTITUTION: An IC chip 10 having an optical receiver 12 is mounted on an upper face 20 of a substrate 14. The material of the substrate is glass, ceramic or alumina, etc., for example. A pulse laser 16 simultaneously transmit the optical pulse in single color to a lower face 18 of the substrate 14. The pulse rate of the laser 16 is set at a prescribed clock rate. This laser pulse striking the substrate surface is made to pass through the substrate 14 and scattered through the substrate 14. The scattered light to appear from the upper face 20 of the substrate 14 strikes the optical receiver 12 of the chip. Each optical receiver 12 transduces pulse-shaped scattered light to an electric clock pulse and the clock is electrically redistributed to an IC on the chip 10.</p> |
