PURPOSE: To determine the sex of a cursorial bird such as ostrich. CONSTITUTION: This method comprises a stage for administering a substance capable of developing specified sex to a fertilized egg of a cursorial bird and a stage for culturing the resulting egg until the egg is hatched. The administration stage involves a step for injecting the substance into the egg and also, prior to this injection step, a step for making a hole in the eggshell of the egg, more specifically, in the air capsule of the egg. As the substance for developing the female sex, a natural estrogen or its synthetic imitation product, such as estradiol-17βis used. As the substance for developing the male sex, a natural nonaromatic androgen or its synthetic imitation product, such as dihydrotestosterone is used.
