PURPOSE:To obtain an alkyl aryl carbonate and a diaryl carbonate in high yield without clogging a distillation column. CONSTITUTION:In producing an aromatic carbonate comprising an alkyl aryl carbonate and a diaryl carbonate or their mixture by reacting a dialkyl carbonate with an aromatic hydroxyl compound, the dialkyl carbonate, the aromatic hydroxyl compound and a catalyst are fed to a continuously operated reactor, an aliphatic alcohol as a by-product is continuously extracted from a distillation column connected to the reactor so that the concentration of the aliphatic alcohol in the reactor is made <=2wt.%. The formed aromatic carbonate and the catalyst are continuously taken out from the reactor to successively produce the aromatic carbonates. |
